Great year...
The Hikers has been a tremendous success with lots of new walkers passing this way because of the "Rest" this all down to you guys and word and mouth, thank you all for your support.

WHITBARROW SCAR INFORMATION AND LINKS
The website Striding Edge is a wonderful photo diary of Lake District Fells and has some wonderful walks outlined, including this one around Whitbarrow Scar
The Limestone Pavements organisation describes the local area and their leaflet on Whitbarrrow Scar and its flora and fauna can be downloaded from this link. This outlines some of the many rare butterflies in the area.
Cumbria Wildlife Trust looks after several Nature Reserves in the area - one of which on Whitbarrow Scar is outlined in this brochure.

This article was in the the Times and Star, Family Walk: Whitbarrow Scar in May 2009.There is a mention of Hikers Rest in the article - probably our first ever publicity!!
HOW WE STARTED
We opened in April 2009 as an honesty facility for weary hikers walking in the Whitbarrow Scar area of Witherslack, Cumbria. My 2 girls and I make cakes and provide hot and cold drinks for passers-by to help themselves to and make a contribution in the envelopes provided. I live next door and the envelopes are posted to there for me to collect.
We have a wash room and toilet and we keep it open 24 hrs a day for the weary walker. There is a table and chairs inside, out of the rain and wind, and also a picnic table and chairs outside, where you can enjoy the beautiful views of Beck Head and Whitbarrow Scar.
